| Research Projects: | I am currently engaged in research evaluating the effectiveness of an intimate partner violence intervention, delivered by community nurses in the context of primary care, in reducing violence and improving health outcomes among pregnant women. The purpose of this research is to assist women experiencing partner violence during pregnancy to remain safe from harm through the use of safety enhancing strategies (e.g. identification of an escape route out of the house, staying in a women's shelter, obtaining a no contact order) and, in so doing, to improve their (mental and physical) health and that of their newborns. Specific research questions are: (1) Does the intervention reduce partner violence? (2) Does the intervention improve maternal and newborn health? (3) How effective are specific safety enhancing strategies and is effectiveness related to women's satisfaction with the strategies? (4) How are women's intervention experiences shaped by social, political, and economic factors? |
