Education Night: Women’s Mental Health + Addictions

Members of the public, researchers, practitioners and educators are invited to this
free event co-presented by the WHRI Mental Health and Addictions Group and
Dr. Erin Michalak, Director, Collaborative Research Team to Study Psychosocial
Issues in Bipolar Disorder (CREST.BD). The evening will focus on key issues affecting the mental health of women in BC and share new research findings on treatments and self-management techniques for conditions such as depression and bipolar disorder.

Network Environments for Aboriginal Research (NEARBC) Canadian Coalition for Global Health Research 5th Annual Summer Insititute.

A limited number of spaces are available for “dyads” or pairs of researchers on the same project or team where one is from a low- or middle-income country (LMIC) and one is from Canada. SI5 is intended to promote LMIC-Canada partnerships in addressing specific Indigenous health research challenges including, but not limited to, identifying Indigenous peoples, engaging community in the research endeavor, ensuring ethical standards are met (e.g., collective consent with respect to knowledge that is communally endowed], knowledge translation and exchange.)

This year’s Summer Institute will be held from July 16-23, 2008 at the Quw'utsun' Cultural and Conference Centre, located in Duncan, British Columbia.

Systematic Reviews in Health Care

The Centre for Clinical Epidemiology & Evaluation (C2E2) is pleased to offer a 5 day course on systematic reviews in June 2008. This course is intended for clinicians, researchers, health care professionals, graduate students, decision makers and those interested in undertaking a systematic review in the near future. The intention of the course is to provide participants with an understanding of the key components in both systematic reviews and rapid reviews for policy makers.
