osteoporosis & Urinary incontinence study

 

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

FOR A STUDY ON OSTEOPOROSIS

& URINARY INCONTINENCE

 

Postmenopausal  women between the ages of  55 and 80  are sought to participate in a study  to look at the effects of a program of physiotherapy and education on bladder control  and physical activity.

To be eligible:

You must have a diagnosis of osteoporosis or osteopenia and leak urine unintentionally at least 2-3 times per week when you sneeze, cough,  laugh, lift or run and/or when you have a strong urge to get to the bathroom

You will be ineligible to participate if any of the following apply to you:

  • you have had bladder surgery
  • you cannot read and understand English
  • if you need walking assistance

 

The study will be conducted at BC Women’s Health Centre located at West 29th and Heather Street in Vancouver.

Participation in this study will require either once a week sessions for 12 weeks or one 3 hour session.  All participants will have a one hour initial and final assessment by a physiotherapist.  You will be reimbursed for parking.
